“Can you tell me, what happens when we die?”

Visible to anyone in the world

A friend of mine, a charity worker who supported the needs of refugees, once shared a remarkable story. One afternoon, a Chinese man walked into his office. He didn’t speak a word of English, but through a live video link to a professional translator, they were able to communicate.

The man’s question was simple, yet profound.

“Can you tell me what happens when we die?”

That question cuts to the core of human existence. It was not unique to him—it belongs to all of us. Sooner or later, every thinking person confronts it. And believe me, the question becomes more persistent with age.

Why is there something rather than nothing?
Why is this intricate combination of matter and electric impulses we call the brain aware of itself?
Why are we the only creatures we know of who can even ask such questions?

This is the edge of the map for science. These are not queries that can be answered in a laboratory or solved with an equation. For all the sweeping promises of scientific advancement, we are no closer to solving these existential riddles than we were a thousand years ago.

The moment we begin to ask such questions, we step into another realm—one that science cannot chart. It is the realm of meaning, purpose, and the eternal.
