I've just completed a 9-month peer mentoring role with The Open University, which involved providing advice and support to a student new to the OU and enrolled on one of its courses. It was intensely satisfying to help out another student and to be present when they needed encouragement.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor then contact student support or your faculty team to see if they run a peer mentor scheme.
