The Musician 🎹

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Sunday, 26 Dec 2021, 16:07

A memory of Kreisler once:
At some recital in this same city,
The seats all taken , I found myself pushed On to the stage with a few others,
So near I see the toil
Of his face muscles, a pulse like a moth
Fluttering under the fine skin,
And the indelible veins of his smooth brow.

I could see too, the twitching of the fingers,
Caught temporarily in art's
neurosis,
As we sat there or warmly applauded
This player who so beautifully suffered
For each of us upon his instrument.

So it must have been on
Calvary
In the fiercer light of the thorns halo:
The men standing by and that one figure,
The hands bleeding, the mind bruised but calm,
Making  such Music as lives still.
And no one daring to interupt
Because it was himself that he played
And closer than all of them the God listened.

A day in Autumn- R S Thomas

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Monday, 27 Dec 2021, 21:33

🍃🍂🍃🍂
It will not always be like this,
The air windless, a few last Leaves adding their decoration
To the trees' shoulders, braiding the cuffs
Of the boughs with gold; a bird preening
🌳🌲🟩    🐦🍀🌄
In the lawns mirror. Having Looked up from the day's chores, pause a minute,
Let the mind take its photograph
Of the bright scene, Something to wear
Against the heart in the long cold.

Three things that have made me happy

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Friday, 7 Oct 2022, 18:34

Apart from getting married, which was the most happiest event of my whole life!
I was also really happy going to stay in France. This was in the late  (1970s) and  It was so interesting to be in another country that was not Britain!

To hear a different language being spoken that sounded like a song or poem to my ears, that was really amazing. To meet some new people who had a different outlook on life, yet were just people like me. I did not yet know the language, but I wanted to learn and I still have friends there. It was my stay in France that has inspired me to study for this BA Degree in languages.

We have not had a holiday there now in a long time, due to family commitments,  health problems and so on, but I won't complain because this post is about being happy.

The third happiest event of my life was moving here to this area of (rural east midlands) after my marriage, gaining a new family,  that of my husbands family (aunt and uncle) who have been good to me, and having my own two children, this was also incredible and a fascinating journey too.

Of course like all families we have had our ups and downs but mostly it was good. I don't think having loads of money can make you happy,  but having enough to cover your basic needs, not to have to struggle too much, that is important and so is having good health.

It is mainly about having a balanced attitude to life, to see the glass as half full,  rather than half empty. To have gratitude for what you do have, rather than crying about what you don't have. Anyway, thats just what I think.

What makes you happy? What was the happiest moment of your life?

A cold damp autumn day

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Monday, 25 Sep 2023, 13:27

This morning eldest son had left me a text in French, telling me how he was, and what he was doing today. I was so pleased I could read and understand all his texts in French.

I feel like I am making progress, putting my OU french studies to good use. I replied with a text telling him in french what I would be doing today too including, dentist appointment, library, studying, reading and note taking for TMA 02. We exchanged some amusing emoticons! 😅😷🥴🥱

I took my hisband for a dental appointment check up. We then did a quick tour of the village,  stopping off at the library,  which thankfully was empty.  In the library we had a good look around and hisband bought some good second hand books that were for sale there. I helped the lady to pack and  tidy up some of the  books,  before she closed the door for the day ( they are only open in the mornings now) I like to help out there sometimes whenever I can. 📚

When we got home we had a cup of tea and a sandwich. I was then able to study again for a few hours taking notes and listening to audios. Today I was studying all about metaphors. I had almost  finished taking notes when the electric fire blew up!
Yes thats right, the electric fire had just exploded, as in it had overheated, it went pop! oh no!

Fortunately I had a little spare heater in the store room,  a radiator type of thing. Not as cosy looking as my little log effect fire,  but it does the job,  until we get the broken heater fixed.

I made a hearty Spaghetti Bolognaise for the dinner, which we both really enjoyed a great deal, the weather being so cold and damp outside and a fog has now started to form around the house and garden. Thank Goodness I found that spare heater!

The cats had been out all last night and they were now both curled up, one on the chair and the other on the settee on top the knitted blankets that I have made made especially for them.

I switched on my little electric candelabra and the twinkling christmas  lights, then we had a strong cup of tea and a stollen cake. Just time for a bit of reading,  while waiting for my other half to come home. ☕🍪

Revelation

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Monday, 7 Feb 2022, 23:50

                     🌎 📖

It has been predicted in the Bible that there will be a great falling away from the belief in the existence of God. I believe this is happening, and this is not something new,  but fulfills the prophesies of Revelation about the truth of the end times. Revelation is a very nteresting chapter of the Bible that gives us hope!

In the New world

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Tuesday, 8 Feb 2022, 14:32

A Revelation  🌅
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain,  for the old order of things has passed away.”
Revelation chapter 21

Our Greatest Comfort comes from God

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Wednesday, 27 Apr 2022, 03:38

The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.

(Isaiah 40 Bible)
