Proof of Concept video - Mathematics in Second Life

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Breen Sweeney, Wednesday, 25 Nov 2009, 00:17

I've been doing some work on mathematics in Second Life. I've made a short 'proof of concept' video to illustrate a mathematical concept.

Mathematics in Second Life - Short Video

I'd be very interested in any comments. (This is 'educational research', so if I use your remarks, I'll make it anonymous and say "Observer 1 said ... " etc. It's about 20 MB in size, as small as I can make it without losing too much quality.).

Can you say whether you knew the mathematical concept before watching the video, and whether you felt it explained it properly?

Negative comments are just as helpful as positive ones, as I hope to make other videos in future.

(It should run in this blog, but if you prefer, stop it, right-click on the link, (or do the Mac equivalent), then you can open it in a new window, new tab, you can save it, or choose your media player of choice, depending on how your defaults are set up smile  )

Christmas Pantomime in Second Life, 2008

Visible to anyone in the world

If anyone wants to do a response to the previous post about my photographs of the Christmas pantomime, they can do so here.

(There does seem to be an anomaly in the blog software? When I do a post which is for everyone, people can make comments, and also when I'm typing the original comment I have all the features above to do things like make the script italic, make it bold, etc.

When I do a 'Open University' only post, I don't have these features and no one can make comments.)

Welcome to my blog

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Breen Sweeney, Friday, 19 Dec 2008, 01:07

Hello. For my first posting in this blog, I thought I'd just repeat part of my profile (as it is now.)

I work for the Open University in two capacities. I am an Associate Lecturer on various mathematics courses, and I am a COLMSCT Associate Teaching Fellow.

My real life name is Breen Sweeney, and my Second Life name is Breen Mathy. During 2008 I held tutorials in Second Life with volunteer students from M208, and during 2009 I'm planning to hold some more tutorials on the February 2009 presentation. In 2008 I used a specially created FC forum to keep track of comments, to post agendas and record informal minutes, etc. During 2009 I'll be trying to use this blog instead.

So I'll be both making personal comments in this blog about my Second Life experiences, and also making entries in here for any students who may attend my 2009 tutorials.

If you check my profile and click on my webpage, you'll be directed to the COLMSCT page about my project ... or just go here;  my COLMSCT project page (set to open in new window/tab)
