present or past?

Visible to anyone in the world

*** Potential audience: Post-graduate students writing up their thesis ***

I'm under the impression that references to data must be consistently made in the past tense (eg, In line 3 learner B showed her apprehension...) instead of in the present tense (eg, In line 3learner B shows her apprehension...).

Any thoughts on this?

PS I'm currently reading an article by Blin and Appel (2011) and they seem to combine both tenses for no obvious reason.
