Learning is social; well, at least that's what I think. This might explain why I enjoy sharing and exchanging lerning experiences with others.
On the few rare occasions when I've been able to spend some time on campus in Milton Keynes, and now that I'm here at a research centre, discussing research issues with others helps me so much to make sense of what I'm doing.
The online forums somehow don't do it so much - not for me, anyway.
And a little comment on how impressed I was with my host professor a few days ago.
At the end of a seminar he asked someone else to write down the new schedule of seminar presentations for the coming months as we discussed it. It involved 18 presenters and 10 dates.
He was very involved in the process of assigning dates to people - to the point that he could perfectly remember the date each of the presenters had been assigned off the top of his head and without a calendar in front of him (and, of course, having taken no notes as somebody else was writing it all down).
What a bright and clear mind!
PS A couple of pictures of my new working space. Nothing special about them, I know. More a sort of record keeping of my stay here.
PS2 Heavy snow in Helsinki today. We're reaching record-levels of snowfall this winter - 70cm and rising.
