Piano exam last Monday week 14 hours practice in 4 days was a bit draining. Have to finish draft of one short story and start another.

Lots of different writing habits some seem to write everyday, 6 hour sessions etc. I probably haven't done much since Xmas.

Interviewed on a writing blog being published next week.

The Bodhisattva of Carraigmore

The Bodhisattva of Carraigmore

Just published this which was the final EMA on Amazon won't post a link as not sure if you're allowed. But it is free over this week end.

A gentle tale for St Patrick's day week end

At least I'm getting my money's worth and mileage from A363.

E Publishing

Visible to anyone in the world

It seems the easy bit is writing, to get any exposure seems to be a massive marketing exercise involving Twitter, blogs,Kindle forums and another one Goodreads.

How do people find the time to do all this?

This was TMA 1 amazing what you can do nowadays. Sometimes the instructions for doing things can be a bit overwhelming. I found it better to just try and do it a step at a time.Going to format a few more short stories and then that novel.

Held off as long as I could but eventually signed up to Twitter at week end. It seems for marketing, promotion etc this is almost essential nowadays.

Been trying to formulate a plan for the past few weeks so opening chapters of a novel completed by Mid Nov.

Now I've got these short stories,2nd in one competition shortlisted in another. So because one is 'published' my understanding is that conventional publishers  are reluctant to touch them. Sending to conventional publishers probably means waiting for 3 months or more to be told they've rejected your pieces.

So I'm now looking at e publishing on Amazon or Smashwords, relatively quick & easy the problem seems to be making sure a) work is formatted correctly for electronic versions b) having a good cover c)putting effort in to marketing & promotion. There are people who will do a & b for a reasonable fee.

The way I see it is I think e readers will become more popular with increased sales of i phones,i pads & kindles also compare the way music is bought nowadays compared to years ago.

Going to take Jameela's advice and write 3 or 4 chapters of the novel by end of October and tidy up 2 of my short stories.

Joined the novel writers forum so got a lot of reading to catch up on some have got 10 chapters.

Results came through thought I might scrape a grade 2 but got a distinction grade 1 so CW going very well.

Now the course is over just a question of the next move put enough stories together for an anthology or start that novel?

Absolutely flabbergasted again, just heard I have been awarded 2nd place in this competition and reached the short list in the Fine Line comp.

Thanks to forum membersfor placing the link in the shared activities.

One thing about the OU is that I'm not a prolific writer by any means but no way would I have achieved this without the discipline of A363 and forum feedback suprisingly this was also the first TMA.

This gives me a massive boost and the much needed motivation to continue.

Sent off the poetry trilogy from A215 last year and am staggered (not false modesty I can assure you) that they actually published this one as it was more of an exercise if anyone remembers the 'Delia Smith' cookbook/recipe advice.

Anyhow it hasn't exactly got Thomas Hardy's fingerprints all over it so I'm not sure if I'm more shocked at being published or the fact that this poem was successful.

My biog is also way off the mark I'm not unemployed, don't watch TV and have a passing interest in roses, then again this could become my alter ego.

In conclusion I suppose we must take and be grateful for any success that comes our way.

But it proves there is hope for us all and as somebody else put it I won't be ungluing the poetry pages of A363 just yet.

Probably the most enjoyable course I've completed with the OU due to the interaction and feedback on the forum.

The course in itself is OK trying to fit it in around everything else creates the pressure.

Running out of time for the EMA just finished a shaky 1st draft I'm in the position where others were a month ago.

The only TMA I finished in good time was TMA 3 but anyhow will concentrate and one version or another will be submitted.

Didn't really achieve much while away but home today so there's the week end to make that impact.

The real problem I now have on getting TMA 6 back is that the tutor's feedback is the polar opposite of forum comments.
