TMA 01 result.

Visible to anyone in the world

So, my results are in and I'm actually surprised!  Overall score of 80!  Thats way higher than I excpected.  37 for the Cleopatra part which I had no idea what to do with, so I BS'd the whole thing! 43 for the Cezanne part (One of my hobbies is ophotography, so I'm used to looking fairly closely at some pictures, though not comparting them).

I have a lot of good guidance too, but obvously getting a really high mark leaves less room for maneuver in TMA 2 when I rework one of them.

It's looking like i'll rework the cleopatra part, Thats the part I was overall most unhappy with.

On a side note, I have to say that If i hadnyt done the access course (y032) I would never have learned how to structure an essay and this would have all turned out differently!

As I have a week off work I think I should do TMA 2 this week!

TMA 01 submitted, referencing is stupid

Visible to anyone in the world

So finally, i have finished TMA 01!!  what a flaming pain in the backside!!

I added my citations and references before I spellchecked and grammarised the essay and submitted.

Referencing is the biggest faff on I have ever come accross...  surely someone could have thought of a much easier way than what we use!

Still seems okay.

Visible to anyone in the world
Sop, this AA100 thing still seems to be progressing okay.
I feel like I have learned a fair bit already in relation to study skills, looking at and interpreting things and its only been a couple of weeks since the start.

I'm already three weeks ahead, where I planned to be at the beginning of the module!   But i've taken a break from working from the book now for a little while to concentrate a little more closely on TMA 01

Cleopatra -  I had initially looked at the passages that I wanted to use in this little essay as well as the one thst is with the essay question, but I had sort of got very confused and marked up bits that I now see as irrelevant (watch as they turn ut to be important bits).  I had started a draft copy too...  but i knew it was pretty poor from the outset, So i have abandoned that one and taken myself about three hours this morning to run back through the three passsages I wish to use, pick out and for the most part paraphrase parts of it as I noted them for my essay.  Then after a brief essay plan I used my notes quite closely to write the essay minus the conclusion, That'll come to me eventually and i will have about 80 words to use on it.  I plan to type that up in a few minutes.

Cezanne - Okay, so as a photographer, I thought I knew what I was doing with this... after all i'm used to comparing photographs arent I!  Turns out I havent got a bloody clue doesn't it.  I reviewed inside art again and made a pretty slapdash effort at the Cezanne essay a week ago.  I've now picked out some different points and think I will recompare the two paintings.  It doesn't help however that I think Cezanne is a pretty poor artist.

My new house should finally be bought in a couple of weeks, so that three week start I had on the module will soon fade into nonexistence during the month I have allotted myself to decorate and move into my house.   I hope I still find enough time for studying too, even if it is just while I'm sat on the floor waiting for a new settee or a new desk!

Confusion

Visible to anyone in the world

Okay, so i can read and understand the question on the cleopatra essay, however the guidance notes have left me slightly perplexed as they suggest the way to tackle the essay is not in fact the way that i would have thought best to tackle it.

Anyway, some notes have been taken from the Cassius dio passage and also from plutarch's account of Cleo meeting Antony.  so I may begin to write.

Week or so since last visit

Visible to anyone in the world
It's been a week or so, I'm still stuck with faustus and have absolutely no idea, so that chapter will be abandoned until the weekend when i can talk with a relevant tutor.

Went to my first tutorial yesterday, very informative, met some lovely people and I'm looking forward to the next one.

I learned a fair bit about reading types with relevance to close reading and contextual reading, so I am happy.

Going to dive in noow and begin my notes for the TMA1 part one!

Seems to be going well.

Visible to anyone in the world
I've had a pretty productive week since finishing up with the cezanne stuff.

I decided to leave out Faustus for a few days and concentrate on the Faraday section.  I know it's not a chapter thats being included in AA100 this year, but since it's in the book and I wanted to make the most of it I decided to work it through.

The activities in there gave me some more insight into what I should be looking at, how I should be analyzing and interpreting both text and pictures.  Looking at the discussion's from the activities however I am way off the mark for either descriptiveness or pulling out the correct parts of the text.   So more work needed.

After a couple of fun days with that, because science is fun ^_~ I finally made my way back to Faustus.

Once again I tried to read the play but got bogged down in the poetry at the start far too fast.  I did however take a suggestion from a comment on a previous entry and reaad it alongside the audio CD.  This made it easier to read and the words flowed of their own account rather than having to be torn from the page by my eyes!

So, now thats done, I can take a shower and grab breakfast before I get back to working through the chapter!

Not liking faustus

Visible to anyone in the world

So, I started reading through Marlow's Faustus the other day, three pages later and my head was battered!   I'm setting it aside from now, I have decided to study Tesla and do the first TMA before I go back and then hopefully have a couple of weeks to bash through faustus at that point.

I've never been able to understand poetry which doesn't really help here.

Started the course, not sure what to think

Visible to anyone in the world

While I have started the course last week, doing activity one  in block one wasn't so hard, but doing activity two was quite stressful from the point of view that it made me think back quite carefully and realise even more than i did before that I am a friendless middle aged lady with no interpersonal skills whatsoever.

So, i think that really does conclude my study for today, I'll get back to it again on the morrow.
