The World According to Colour: A Cultral History by James Fox

"Colour is a pigment of our imaginations that we paint all over the world. Larger than any city, more intricate than any machine, more beautiful than any painting, it might in fact be the greatest human creation of them all."

The World According to Colour explores the story of humanity, with colour as the guide.

It is a rare and wonderful thing to read a book which is both highly intelligent and highly readable; but as with all his work, Fox delivers ideas in a passionate and acessible manner. The World According to Colour is well written, gripping and inspiring, packed with thought-provoking information and a delight to read. This book has easily earnt a place in my top 5 collection.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in philosophy, history and/ or art and makes a fantastic read alongside the studies of such subjects too.
