French reading - 2

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Tuesday, 27 Jul 2021, 22:29

This morning I finished my house work at home and son was indoors and didn't want a walk outside. I decided to read my detective book in french par Georges Simenon. I had my dictionary at hand because there were some words I was not too sure of.
I sat in the back garden in the shade of the trees because the front garden was too exposed to the heat and I burn quite easily.
The neighbourhood was fairly quiet a lot of people have either gone to work or to the beach (which is quite close to us)so it is very quiet here at the moment. Perfect for reading in peace!

Love one another ❤

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

This year- Staycation! 😎🍹

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Wednesday, 15 Nov 2023, 00:48

At the Beach

After Lockdown. This morning we left the house at 10.30. to take the bus from the market place to go to the local beach. We both wore our masks in the bus as instructed. Son hates the sun and the beach, brings him out in a rash! So he is being looked after by a relative, while I take a day off with hubby.

The journey takes about half an hour and the bus stops at a location well before the main stop, thats where we get off. There is a short cut past a sports venue then onto a footpath which leads down to the beach.

Arrived at the beachfront and walked along to find our favourite spot in a remote little part of the beach which is far from the crowds.

For about an hour or so we stayed there in the sand dunes and I read my detective book in french using the on line dictionary on my mobile to find unfamiliar words.

The weather was fresh and breezy with occasional sunshine. when the sun finally did appear from behind the clouds, it was lovely and warm, so I had a little sun bathe. It was good to relax after months of studying. Hubby had a nap too.

The seagulls were flying overhead and we could hear the waves breaking over the pebbles on the shore. It was nice to unwind and enjoy the fresh sea air.

Off we went for a paddle in the sea but it was a bit cold,! so didn't stay there for too long! This is the best part of the beach as it is far away from amusement parks and ice- cream parlours. No one ever comes up this far up along the beach, well hardly ever!

Afterwards we took a long leisurely stroll along the beach and back towards the hustle and bustle of the main beach again. However we couldn't resist an ice-cream! Well you just have to have an ice-cream at the sea side don't you ?

The donkeys were there on the main beach, taking the children for a steady slow ride along the sand. People were playing volley ball in the sand with a net.
Children were happy and excited  bouncing on the trampolines. Everyone looked jolly and pleased to be outside agan in the sun at last!

It looked like the vendors were opening up, preparing for the busy holiday season ahead. At the moment there is a steady trickle of people strolling cautiously along the promenade. It is not yet in full flow, but that will happen at the end of the month, when the schools break up!

In normal times we usually come to the beach, about a month or two before the children break up from school, while it is still fairly quiet. However, this year we had to wait for the lockdown to lift so we are a bit later this year. Anyway it was a nice day out by the sea!

In August we will avoid the crowds and will be mostly staying locally, gardening, going walking or cycling and visiting relatives nearby.

La communion de vie

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Tuesday, 13 Jul 2021, 10:53

🐑🐇🐁

Amen

Une promenade bénie

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Tuesday, 13 Jul 2021, 10:55

Dreams

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Wednesday, 15 Nov 2023, 00:42

I think that dreams are just all your hopes and fears. I don't think they can predict the future, or give you some kind of secret or important information. That is just superstitious!

I have had dreams sometimes, like the one recently - where I have come into a lot of money and became fabulously rich, from an inheritance or something and can afford to  buy whatever I want, a big mansion, a house with a swimming pool. A big fast car, fatastic holidays and so on. This feels so good and so real and then I wake up all elated,  thinking it will really happen in the near future! Of course this is not the case ! It never happens, at first  I am a little bit disappointed, but then I realize I am not too badly off, I have my health and family and I am still living in my humble little abode (where I may add I am still very happy!)

Another dream I have is a terrible nightmare. This is where really something dreadful happens, like a war breaks out or some terrible disaster. I wake up sweating and I feel really upset.
Sometimes it's about being attacked mentally or physically by some malevolent entity ,  I think it may really happen, and then I feel absolutely terrified for even an hour or two afterwards. Then when something bad doesn't happen,  I feel this tremendous sense of relief!

Sometimes it's sad dreams about relatives who have died. That they are trying to tell me something. This is about grief that has not been properly expressed, things I wish I had said or done, it  has been pushed away to the back of my mind, because it is too painful to even think about it. My mind cannot bear to think about it, so it comes back as a sad dream.
But I do not believe it is the dead trying to contact me!

I believe dreams are just all your unconscious thoughts, ideas, wishes, fears racing around in your mind during the day, which are then put away to the back of your mind,  but then they will resurface again in your dreams. Wishful thinking or fears,  or sadness, or of what could happen but probably never will happen!  It is just like a dustbin of rejected, chaotic thoughts and ideas!

However, I do think we can learn a lot of things from dreams, like what we are afraid of most, or what we  wish for the most, but they are not real and are not based on reality at all but on fantasy and should certainly not be taken too seriously.

Holiday reading

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Thursday, 8 Jul 2021, 13:01

Yesterday I finished reading my book in french from the  "toi et moi"  series. I am hoping to get some more from the same series, as they were quite easy, and not too long!

Now I am reading a french detective story in french,  I am using my dictionary whenever I come across a word  that I am not familiar with. Hopefully will get through this one soon!

Today I am in the back garden under the evergreen trees. It is nice and cool in the shade reading my book.

Isn't it amazing I can now read a whole book in French and understand it all !

Thanks to the OU!

Dreaming of France- poem 🇫🇷

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Tuesday, 2 May 2023, 05:23

France is a country
I love to explore
With its mountains and valleys
And coasts I adore

The countryside beckons
As a place of retreat
Long walks in the forests
And a stay in the gite

Orchards and vineyards
With rows of ripe fruit
There's a wine tasting visit
If you follow the route!

Fields of fresh lavender
That smell so divine
And Walking through meadows
All bathed in sunshine

The mountains so high
Some have snow on them too
The air's so refreshing
And there's a wonderful view

In Paris the Louvre
Famous paintings to see
And Notre dame cathedral
On the Île- de -la -cité.

Global warning!

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Sunday, 4 Jul 2021, 12:21

                       🌍

Many people in our society deny the threat of Global warming.

They are in fact in denial because they do not want to face the truth of the reality.

In a short time I am sure there will be many more disasters all over the world. The threat for survival is probably just as much dangerous as Covid 19.

The greed of the big corporations is limitless in using the resources of this  already exhausted earth !

In a little while God wil destroy those who are ruining the earth!

(Thats in the bible!)

The book of Revelation in the Bible talks about the waters turning bitter, the sun scorching people and plagues now does this sound familiar.?

God knows the righteous man and will save him but the evil doer shall perish.

Environmental poem 🌍

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Saturday, 4 Sep 2021, 20:36

The End is nigh -

Exhaust pipes

Coughing out toxicity

Fossil fuels pollution

Mans complicity

Chemical solution

Devil may care

Carbon in the air

Poisoning our lungs

Choking, smoking

Burning, croaking,

The earth is screaming

Where's the meaning?

Our children die!

The end is nigh!

Environment- Why Can't Governments make life better for people Living in inner cities?

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Wednesday, 27 Sep 2023, 09:22

Why not Making life better for people in the inner cities - post Covid19

There has been some significant progress made in cities with the introduction of pedestrianisation in parts of the city, but it doesn't go far enough there needs to be much more pedestrianised areas, also in terms of  ⛔reducing traffic and facilitating good social distancing. 🚧 🚶‍♀️🚵‍♂️

By having Pedestrianisation in towns, it will enable the residents to move around and socially distance more easily from shop to shop, without being hindered by the sheer volume of people that are crowded together like cattle all in one area because of the volume of  traffic taking up all space along the roads. 🏢🏪🏠🌲

The closing up of certain streets to traffic, and the redirection of ⛔traffic flow together with out of town parking, will help with social distancing in the town centre areas, and make a very great difference to the residents of inner city streets, as well as shoppers in the town centres.🏙

Residents can have a more 🏡peaceful existence, without the constant noise of traffic hurtling past their windows, non stop for hours on end. 🚘🚙🚚🚛🚑This will also be more beneficial for their mental health. 🙂

Another bonus is not having to breathe in the poisonous fumes from the petrol emissions,⛽  which causes so many health problems in the population like asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, emphysema and other respiratory illnesses.🗣🌬    🤮

Having less cars 🚗🚙around the town centre areas would greatly improve the health of its citizens. It would also create a more pleasant and safer shopping experience, with more space for social distancing, for those visiting the city. The town centre should  be a more attractive area, which could be a more desirable place to live and buy a property🌲🏪🏠🏡

Electric cars 🚙are becoming increasingly popular. They have less dangerous emissions and are less harmful to the health of the residents.
Unfortunately, at the moment they are still pricey £ and out of reach for most ordinary people.  There should be more  discount schemes to encourage people to choose to buy electric. Who can afford it!

An updated public transport 🚌🚍system will be essential, as this will encourage people to drive less. Buses need to be cleaned 🧽thoroughly on a regular basis and kept in good condition,  Hand sanitizers🧴 provided and spacing made for social distancing.  Public transport is particularly important for people living out of town, and for those living in the outlying villages to have access to shopping centres, for visits for days out, tourism, cinema, sports centres and restaurants 🚎 fares should be kept low and concessions for pensioners and those on low incomes.

It is better for the economy £ to have safer and healthier environments to shop in. The shopping areas need to be spacious areas, good for social distancing, with benches (spaced appart) to sit on, and green 🌲🌳areas with trees. 🌄This is better for the health, as the  trees will absorb  CO2 ,  good also for the well being of the towns residents.

There are some encouraging signs that things are changing for the better. However there are still much more improvements to be made within inner city areas,  to make more space for social distancing so that any infectious diseases are less likely to spread and ensure the future health of its citizens post covid19.✅

French Blog- un Jour froid et pluvieux

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Saturday, 3 Jul 2021, 10:57

Hier il a plu toute la journée. 🌧🌫

The village 🏘

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Tuesday, 29 Jun 2021, 23:58

I was inspired to copy this poem down after spending my holidays in the french mountains quite a few years ago.🏡🏘⛰🏞 Gill

Le retour au village  ⛰🏘

Je vais revoir mon village,

Les lieux que J'ai tant chéris,

Et la montagne sauvage,

Et les églantiers fleuris;

Douce trêve

Qu'un long rêve

Qui s'achève

Les encore à mes esprits.

Je verrai la croix qui penche

Au front des rochers alpins,

Et les tapis de pervenche,

Et les halliers d'aubépins,

Et la mousse

Qui repousse

Molle et douce

A l'abri de noirs sapins.

Je reverrai la bruyère

Qui s'incline en gémissant,

Je reverrai la clairière

Où le ruisseau va

glissant,

Et ton onde

Vagabonde

Qui féconde

Le pecage verdissant.

Mouille, mouille, Paradis!
Tout est à l'abri;

Fellowship of life

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Wednesday, 30 Jun 2021, 19:44

The prayer 🙏of the fellowship of life.🐇

Oh God our father, 🌅we thank you for the wonder and beauty of your creation.🌲

Forgive us, we pray,🙏 that we have taken it all for granted and have ruthlessly and selfishly exploited it in so many ways contrary to thy will  🐖🐑

In particular we pray for the animals and birds,🕊🦅sharers in your creation, that are powerless to protect themselves from the terror and anguish of ⚡slaughterhouse and vivisection 🐇 laboratory, and those that die cruel and often lingering deaths so that we may wear their skins. 🦊🐆

Let us cease to turn deaf ears to their cries and teach us how to live our lives mercifully and justly so that our ❤ love for you will be mirrored by our love for  All Thy creation.
