You need your thinking cap on!

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Thursday, 9 Dec 2021, 01:15

Finding it hard to concentrate at the moment.
I sit writing notes,  about all the different speakers points of view. I enjoyed the last TMA01 very much about using different literary techniques in poetry that was extremely interesting.
However, this TMA is all about comparing and criticising one persons work against another. Each person coming from a different perspective and having their own valid reasons for their individual views. Each one has something valid and valuable to say, sometimes what they say agrees with the other, some other points differs from the other speakers point of view.

Gathered more information on the Russian Formalists style which seems a good system for analysing poetry,  but then there seems to be more to it,  then there are other techniques that can be applied to analyse creative writing. I just have to bring all these different view points together and find what is similar and what is different about these styles.

I have been at it for about 4 hours 2 this morning and 2 this afternoon and only wrote one page of notes! I don't Feel like I am making much progress today. I am getting tired now and the light is fading, it is getting dark so early these days. I think I will pack up for the day.

I will close the curtains and put the little christmas lights on. The fire is keeping the room nice, dry and warm.
For the meal I am making mashed potatoes, pak choi a little soy sauce, mixed vege and some quorn fishless fillets with lemon juice on. Cheese and crackers with grapes for dessert I am drinking a healthy vitimin drink. It is a healthy veggie day! 🥗🥬🥕🧆🥔 Looking forward to it!

All the family learning French 🇨🇵

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Sunday, 26 Dec 2021, 00:17

Something really great happened to me this week.
My eldest son who lives in a nearby town, and  who has learned French at school GCSE level,  began to talk to me, and has texted me in French every day!

This is really helping me to keep in touch with the French language, while studying English. It helps us both because he is learning to improve his French,  while I am trying to improve on level 2  French at the same time.

I never knew that taking this DegreeCourse would encourage my own children to be interested in learning a language too. This is a bonus!

I am reminded of what my aunt once said to me;

" When you educate a women, you educate a family"
This is certainly turning out to be true!

Into our storms

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Friday, 17 Dec 2021, 19:13

🌊⛵⚡

The Wind howled, lightening flashed! All of a sudden it was blowing a gale. We were caught out in a storm one day walking back from the nearby village.

🌲🌳🌲⚡

I honestly thought I was going to die. Terror filled my heart. The sky had become black, lightening bolts were crashing all around us and I didn't feel safe at all!

I just began to pray aloud, I prayed the our father and I asked God for his help and protection. The storm didn't weaken but we made it back home safely. I must have ran as fast as an olympic runner that day!

I just don't know how we made it back in one piece but I felt a sense of blessed assurance of God's presence at that time as we reached home.

It reminds me of when the disciples had been in the boat with Jesus on the lake when a terrible storm arrived and tested those rugged fishermen. They too thought that they would die but Jesus spoke to the storm he calmed the storm and the elements obeyed him.

Likewise, the Lord invites us to trust him in our storms. Sometimes he miraculously stills the winds and the waves or sometimes he does something else miraculous; he steadies our hearts and helps us to trust him. He asks us to trust him because he has the power to say to the waves "Peace! be still!"

When the tempest rages may he speak to our soul as we trust him especially at this particular time in the trouble of the pandemic. May he reassure us of his presence.

Be of good cheer!

Since handing in my TMA 01,  I haven't done very much lately, in the way of study, except to  read about the next assignment of TMA 02. It all seems fairly straight forward, so I am looking forward to getting on with it. I am in the process of reading it first, then I will be taking notes and trying  to do as much as I can, before the Christmas break.

Always lots to do at this time of year,  near Christmas, I have noticed that everyone around here is starting Christmas early this year.  Already they have put their decorations up. People are fed up with all this doom and gloom of Covid, they just want something good to look forward to, even if it is a meagre Christmas, they are going to make the most of being together with their families.

We have some new  neighbours and they are really getting into the spirit of Christmas with lots of decorations, glitter and lights in their garden. Lots of Happy Christmas signs everywhere, all over the garden !  We have introduced ourselves and they seem very nice and friendly, an older middle age couple like ourselves with quite a few little dogs.

Our cats wonder what to make of it all, as they sit on the path looking at them through the fence in alarmed curiosity, with their ears twitching back forth and  their tails flicking,  they might be wondering,  what on earth these little doggy  creatures, as they go rushing  around the front garden and barking!

We are looking forward to seeing all our family this Christmas and hoping for a normal Christmas if that is ever possible!

Ageism- it's like discrimination!

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Tuesday, 25 Jan 2022, 19:52

When I went to register for Covid booster jab (as the government have said all people over 50 are now allowed to have the Covid Booster jab) the receptionist looked at me and  didn't believe I was over 50. "You only look in your forties !"  Receptionist said looking sceptical, but then she checked the computer. "O yes, you are over 50 sorry about that madam"  you are definitely on the list,  and you have received a reminder to register. You can go along to the vaccination centre in the city. " Computer said yes!
Wonderful !

"Yes I know, but I don't  have a car,  I am not going to make a 60 mile round  journey on the bus to the city, which cost me nearly £10,  plus the taxi another £8 to go the vaccination centre, then back again so all in all, with a coffee,  £20 altogether, why can't I just  have the jab with all the other oldies here!

So I am having it here now with all the other oldies! !
I can't help it if I look young it must be my good Scottish genes!
