A Cheese By Any Other Name Would Smell As Sweet

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Richard Walker, Monday, 11 Jan 2021, 00:54

A stunning map of different names for "cheese" across the regions of Europe. There are some interesting geographical patterns, but a few suprises too. Cheese is from Latin caesus = cheese but in Rome nowadays cheese is fromaggio, but notice Sardinia is more conservative. Good to see Manx and Friesian are recognised.

C'est l'amour d'un Fromager pour une Fromagère

Visible to anyone in the world

Je sais que c'est ringard
Mais je viens de penser que
Je t'aime juste le petit lait que tu es.

I know it's cheesy
But it's just occurred to me that
I love you just the whey you are.
